The Eagle Hotel is just a short walk from Dornoch Cathedral and the Royal Dornoch Championship Golf Course.
Dornoch is probably best known for the championship golf course - rated as one of the world's best golf courses. This is the reason that so many of the famous golfers from the European and American Tours visit Dornoch.
Why not use Dornoch and The Eagle Hotel as a base for your next golfing holiday? There is a good choice of nearby clubs [see below] providing golf on uncrowded fairways. This area is definitely a golfer's paradise - with an abundance of mountain, sea and coastal views.
As well as many golden, sandy beaches along the coastline, the area around Dornoch is known for its typically dry, climate and warmer temperatures than might be expected.
Day Trips and Excursions
Guests staying at The Eagle can reach 'far-flung places' such as John O'Groats or Cape Wrath within a day. Other popular day trip destinations include the pictureque harbour village Kinlochbervie and the port of Ullapool.
Travel south to Inverness [about an hour's drive away] or the Black Isle Peninsula, a part of Scotland that is famous for regular sightings of dolphins off the coast.
Local Leisure Activities
The lochans of Dornoch, on Sutherland Road, offer both fly and bait fishing. Tennis, croquet and bowls can be played locally, or you can enjoy a leisurely walk in the forest or at Loch Fleet Nature Reserve.
Follow the Donald Ross Trail, try out one of the nine designated Cycle Routes, or visit the spot where the execution of the last witch in Scotland took place! This happened in 1727, in a garden in Carnaig Street, near where the hotel stands today.
The local Visitor Centre [open throughout the Summer] is called 'The Heritage Centre' and can be found in Meadows Road in Dornoch.
The Royal Dornoch Club has both the 'feature' Championship course and a second course called 'The Struie Course'. You can visit many other golf courses when based in Dornoch [all within about a 60 minute drive], including Helmsdale, Muir of Ord, Fortrose and Rosemarkie, Bonar Bridge, Tain, and numerous choices near Inverness.
The nearest swimming pool is located close to Embo village, about 3 miles from the hotel. Also popular with children and families, there are play swings at the beach and a safe play park in town.
If exploring beaches or walking is your favourite pastime, the local area boasts a beautifully clean 'Blue Flag' beach with safe bathing in the sea. Alternatively take the country path to the village of Embo, a couple of miles to the north east of Dornoch. A forest walk to nearby Skelbo Wood features a sculpture trail.

Play squash at the Sutherland Squash Club with a ticket that can be bought from The Eagle Hotel, or tennis / bowls on Golf Road - tickets from the resident Golf Professional at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club.
